ASC Community Partnerships and New Beginnings Art Project
Community Partnerships partnered with New Beginnings with an art project idea that would promote their program through their "Creative Tuesdays" mental wellness class. Centerpieces would be hand made for the Rural Philanthropy Days that takes place in the Valley only once in four years. ASC Community Partnerships paid for the art supplies, provide instruction and coordination the concept through Philanthropy Day planning committee.
New Beginnings is a branch of the San Luis Valley Mental Health Center in Alamosa, Colorado, working with people who have chronic and persistent mental illness and those who have found that for some reason their lives have been put on hold and are trying hard to create a life that works for them. The Creative Expressions Class offers each student an opportunity to learn and to practice using their creativity to become a better problem solver. Finally, this class is specifically designed to enhance and to enrich each student's personal life.
Result: Centerpieces got great responses at the event and founders were interested in buying them. New Beginnings is interested in working with ASC Community Partnerships in developing a social enterprise around their "Creative Tuesdays" class to teach clients entrepreneurialism, promote their program and bring in program income for sustainability and diversification of funding.
Current Projects
- Promoting advocacy and collaboration between Valley art organizations and art supporters
- Publishing a directory of Valley artists
- Coordinating a study of the impact art has on the economy of the San Luis Valley
- Connecting local artists with available resources
- Developing additional exhibit opportunities for local artists
