Oreck to address ASC spring graduates (04-30-08)

Bruce J. Oreck, member of the Board of Trustees for Adams State College, will deliver the spring 2008 Adams State College Commencement address. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in Plachy Hall. Adams State will award 346 degrees, including 226 bachelor's degrees, 104 master's degrees, and 16 associates degrees.

Oreck is founding partner of the law firm Oreck, Crighton, Adams & Chase. He formerly served as Vice President and General Counsel for The Oreck Corporation. He is very active in environmental issues, having founded The Zero Carbon Initiative, which seeks to implement better residential building practices and to teach both trades-persons and homeowners what is possible in energy efficiency as well as alternative and renewable energy applications. Oreck is a member of the Colorado Climate Action Panel (a project of - the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization ) and formerly served as a member of Colorado Governor Bill Ritter's New Energy transition advisory team.

Also active in historic preservation, Oreck served for a number of years as the Chairman of the Historic Districts Landmarks Commission in New Orleans. Oreck received his Bachelor of Arts from the Johns Hopkins University, his Juris Doctorate, with honors, from the Louisiana State University School of Law, and obtained his Masters in Law (taxation) from New York University. Oreck is a member of the taxation sections of the Louisiana, Colorado, and American Bar Associations and is an affiliate member of the Institute of Property Taxation. He is a board certified tax attorney as recognized by the Specialization Board (Taxation) of the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Peggy Lamm, vice chair, will convey the greetings from the Board of Trustees for Adams State. Associated Students and Faculty Vice President of External Affairs, Tanya Martin, will deliver the 2008 class message. Dr. Chris Jackson, assistant professor of music, will lead the singing of the Alma Mater. A reception sponsored by AS&F will follow the ceremony for graduates and their guests in the Plachy Hall Field House.
