This summer Adams State incoming freshman class was encouraged to read the book "Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace...One School at a Time" written by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. The book is based on Mortenson's dedication to building schools and providing access to education in rural communities in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In this first lecture, Hilwig, Centeno, and Ahmad will explore the history, lives of women, and culture of the people of the mountainous regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan whose lives have been forever changed by the schools built by Mortensen. Even if you have not read the book, this roundtable may change your life.

The next free lecture continues with Dr. Mark Abendroth, assistant professor of teacher education, "Cuba's National Literacy Campaign: A Revolutionary Movement from 1961 to Today," on Sept. 17.

Complimentary light refreshments will be offered. All talks are free and the public is invited. For further information on the series of lectures, contact Dr. Robert Astalos, assistant professor of physics at 719-587-7821, or by email Dr. Astalos.
